Overall record 14-19 (-5.1 units)
Last week 3-1
Week 9 picks
Arkansas -3.5 @ Auburn (-105) 1.05 units to win 1 unit
The drama at Auburn is starting to boil over to the field as they have now lost 4 of the last 5. They are not winning games and are looking bad doing it. The worst of it having a Big Ten team (Penn State) come down to Auburn and crush them 41-12. Arkansas on the other hand started off hot and cooled off with a 3 game losing streak. They had a bye last week, but the previous week they went out to Provo, Utah and beat BYU pretty soundly 52-35. I expect a big day from Arkansas QB KJ Jefferson and for the Pigs to win by at least double digits.
Ohio State -15 @ Penn State (-115) 1.15 units to win 1 unit
This is a great line, right? Seems too good to be true? A trap game? I do not believe Penn State is in the same stratosphere as Ohio State. I think we saw the true Penn State a few weeks ago when they lost to Michigan 41-17. Traditionally, this game is a white out at night, however this is a Big Ten Fox nooner. Ohio State scores 16 more points per game than Penn State and gives up 4 points less per game. Sean Clifford is a gamer, but this Ohio State defense is a new unit under new DC Jim Knowles.
Nebraska Money Line vs Illinois (+240) 1 unit to win 2.4 units
Nebraska has started to look a bit improved since letting go of head coach Scott Frost. They have won 2 of the last 3 with a close 6-point loss to Purdue 2 weeks ago. Illinois has been the surprise team of the Big Ten season led by former Wisconsin and Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema. This Illinois squad is 6-1 on the year and ranked 17th in the country. They are led by a defense that is yielding less than 9 points per game. This will be the key to the game. Nebraska will need to put up a couple of touchdowns and field goals, but at home, I think the corn will be up for the challenge. The Illinois offense is anemic which will keep the Cornhuskers in the game.
Syracuse -1.5 vs Notre Dame (-110) 1.1 units to win 1 unit
It is no longer the Carrier Dome, but the JMA Wireless Dome will be rocking come Saturday at noon. The Syracuse Orange are off to their best start in who knows how long. Dino Babers seat is no longer scorching hot. Syracuse last week was a Clemson QB switch away from winning and remaining undefeated. Notre Dame on the other hand has been disappointing to say the least. This is not the start that Coach Freeman had anticipated and losses against Marshall and Stanford were shocking. Syracuse is scoring more than a TD better than ND per game, giving up 6 less, and have a more prolific offense. Syracuse will be at home with a rowdy crowd, more excitement about the game, a better offense, and a better defense. This line is low because of the ND brand name and nothing more.
