Bulls at Nets
It’ the 2nd half of a back-to-back for the Nets tonight as they host the bulls after taking care of business against the Pacers on Monday night. The Nets are in an increasingly weird situation, the team is 2-5 and the players, specifically Kyrie Irving are promoting conspiracy theories on social media. The owner of the Nets Joe Tsai was so flabbergasted by Kyrie he put out a public statement on Twitter condemning what Kyrie is doing. Back to the basketball though, the Nets held Ben Simmons and Seth curry out yesterday against the Pacers but they are expected to play tonight and Joe Harris who played last night is expected to sit. The Nets have been objectively bad this season, notching only two wins against the Pacers and Raptors. They have an Adjusted Net Rating of -6.1 with a middling offense and the second worst Adjusted Defensive Rating in the league at 119. The Bulls have a pretty full injury report for this early in the season, but with this being the first game of a road and home back to back set it makes some sense. Zach LaVine, Ayo Dosunmu, and Coby White are questionable with Andre Drummond and Lonzo Ball out. DeMar Derozan and Nikola Vucevic should see their usage rates skyrocket and expect Alex Caruson and Goran Dragic to be inserted into the starting lineup.
Pick: Bulls +2 (-110)
The Bulls might be missing a few starters for the game, but they still have elite offensive players in Derozan, Vucevic, and Goran Dragic and should be able to take advantage of this terrible Nets defense. I expect the Bulls to score at will tonight and win but we’ll take the +2 points just in case.
Timberwolves at Suns
The Minnesota Timberwolves will finish up a short road trip on Tuesday night when they travel to Phoenix and take on the Suns. Somewhat surprisingly the Suns picked up right where they left last regular season, entering this game with a 4 game win streak and sitting 2nd in the west with a record on 5-1. The T-wolves have gotten off to a decent start aw well, having won three of their last 5 and have an overall record of 4-3. I have a slight issue with the T-wolves though, their two centers Gobert and Karl Anthony Towns don’t fit well together in the starting lineup (I wonder why). The defense has been great but their offense hasn’t been good at all despite having 4 players averaging 14 points or more. They’re painfully average on offense right now and are shooting 31.8% from 3 to boot.
Pick: Under 227.5 (-110)
Despite the star power in this game I expect the total to be stay under 228. Phoenix ranks 2nd in Offensive Rating right now but play a very slow style, couple that with the Timberwolves stout defense and mid offense and that’s how you get the under.
