Best Bets for Thursday’s NBA Slate
Mavericks at Wizards
After a brutal loss to the Magic last night the Mavericks will try to rebound in the nation’s capital tonight in the second night of a back-to-back. The Wizards will be down their best player for the matchup and Luka Doncic will look to bounce back after a poor performance last night.
Pick: Mavericks Moneyline -164
This could be a bit of a trap game for the Mavericks, but we’ll take a chance on them to win. The matchup is not very favorable for the Wizards. The Mavericks are scoring nearly 35% of their points from 3 and the Wizards are allowing teams to shoot 38.2% from 3 which is the 3rd worst in the league. Even though the Mavericks will be down Christian wood expect them to win.
76ers at Hawks
The 76ers travel to Atlanta to take on the Hawks in what will be a 1 game road trip for the Sixers. The season has gotten off to a rocky start for the Sixers at 5-6 and with some early injuries. The Hawks on the other hand have gotten off to a strong start at 7-4 and look like a team that can compete for a top 3 seed in the east.
Pick: Under 222.5 (-110)
Both teams are defensively minded and make the lives of their opponents very difficult. The Sixers defense to start the year has been excellent, the problem for them has been the offense. They’re shooting well but aren’t scoring as many points as they should be since they generate 96.8 offensive possessions per game and rank 25th in Pace. With Harden out of the lineup and the Hawks on the 2nd half of a back-to-back I think points will come at a premium and therefore under 222.5
Trailblazers at Pelicans
The Trailblazers will be in New Orleans tonight in what might be an important game for playoff seeding. Both these teams had road wins last night and will be flying to New Orleans late at night. The Pelicans rocketed off to a great start but lost some momentum with injuries to Zion and Brandon Ingram while the Trailblazers continue to build on their strong start.
Pick: Trailblazers +6 (-110)
Both these teams are traveling back to New Orleans overnight, so even though the Pelicans are at home it’s not a significant travel advantage. Both these teams’ offensive strengths directly oppose their opponents’ defensive strengths so this will no doubt be an interesting matchup. I expect the Blazers to keep this a 2-possession game so we’ll take the +6 but not anything lower.
