Sunday Night Football Week 11: Chiefs at Chargers

I feel like every week this season the Chargers are in a primetime game, and while I like them and Justin Herbert I want some more variety. We have a pivotal matchup for Sunday Night Football this week with the Chargers hosting the Chiefs at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood California. This game will have massive implications for who will win the AFC West and playoff seeding. The Chiefs right now stand atop the division at 7-2 and are the number one seed in the AFC if the playoffs started today, the Chargers are hoping to change that as they are 5-4 and still in the hunt for the playoffs/division. A win today could give the Chargers the boost they need to close out the season strong and get into the playoffs while a loss probably seals their fate as a non playoff team once again. Let’s get into it.

Team Breakdowns

Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs are a wagon right now and it doesn’t look like anyone in the AFC can compete with what they’re doing. Patrick Mahomes is the best player in the NFL and i’m not sure it’s close. The addition of Kadarius Toney also looks like a home run now, he posted a statline of 4 receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown against the Jaguars and that’s only his second game in the Chiefs system. If he gets fully integrated into the game script he could be the replacement for Tyreek Hill that they’ve been looking for.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers are in a tough spot right now. They have been hit with cluster injuries at every spot on the roster. Mike Williams and Keenan Allen haven’t played together since the first quarter of week 1, though it looks like they’ll both finally be back for tonight’s game. Justin Herbery has sorely missed them, the Chargers offense lacked speed even before they got injured and Joe Lombardi refuses to make an adjustment in his playcalling. Justin Herbert has averaged 6.2 ADOT this year which tells you all you need to know about the Chargers offense.

My Best Bet:

It’s put up or shut up time for Brandon Staley and the LA Chargers, his is a must win game for the Chargers if they want to make the playoffs and for Brandon Staley to still have his job next year. A win today would do a lot for the Chargers going into the final stretch of the season in what seems to be a pretty wide open conference outside of Kansas City. With the return of Keenan Allan and Mike Williams I expect Justin Herbert to break his streak of mediocre games and get back to his top 3 QB form that we all know he’s capable of. I’m not sure long term about Brandon Staley as an NFL head coach but during his tenure the Chargers have always played the Chiefs close no matter the circumstances. Superchargers to win.
