Miami Marlins @ Chicago Cubs

Game Preview & Pick:

Cubs starting pitcher Justin Steele has been a revelation so far this season, and his 1.49 ERA leads the NL. It’s not as if the 27 year old southpaw came out of left field, though, as he posted a 3.18 ERA last season, despite his 4-7 record. Steele has been even better pitching at Wrigley Field, where his ERA is an absurd 0.52. I also expect the Cubs offense to get a boost today from top prospect Matt Mervis, who will be making his major league debut – Mervis led the minors in extra-base hits and total bases last season. While he’s an older prospect, at 25 years of age, I think that experience will work to his advantage. Despite the Marlins being one of the best lineups in baseball against lefties, it feels like the stars are aligned for Chicago to exact some revenge today after being swept by Miami last week.

Cincinnati Reds vs Chicago Cubs

Game Preview & Pick:

I was bullish on the Reds coming into the season, taking them to win over 65.5 games, and while it’s been the Pirates who have been the surprise of the NL Central thus far, I like the way Cincinnati has been playing of late. The Reds are much better at Great American Ballpark than away from it, with a 9-6 record at home, while the White Sox are a paltry 4-12 on the road. I’m expecting a strong performance from starting pitcher Hunter Greene, who despite having a respectable 2.89 ERA has yet to record his first win of the season. I think that changes today, though.

Boston Red Sox @ Philadelphia Phillies

Game Preview & Pick:

The Red Sox lineup has been mashing of late, a lot of which has to do with 29 year old Japanese rookie Masataka Yoshida, who after needing a little bit of time to adjust to major league pitching has been on an absolute tear the past 3 weeks, sporting a 14 game hitting streak. Things won’t be easy tonight with Phillies ace Zack Wheeler on the mound, but we’ve seen Chris Sale look a lot more like his former self in 2 of his previous 3 starts, although both of those stellar performances have come at Fenway. I’m expecting this to be a close game, so Boston run line is the play here.
