Game Preview & Pick:

This game very much has the feel of a pitchers’ duel. Zack Wheeler is coming off a dominant performance against the Braves, throwing 8 shutout innings of 3 hit ball while striking out 12, and Nationals starter Josiah Gray has quietly been putting together the best season of his young career. Gray, still just 25 years ago, was a major piece of the haul Washington got back from the Dodgers in their deal for Max Sherzer and Trea Turner two summers ago, but his superb minor league career hadn’t transferred over to the majors. This is one of my favorite pitching matchups of the night.

Game Preview & Pick:

The Blue Jays have one of the scariest offenses in the major leagues this year, but they aren’t quite as potent off Canadian soil. Toronto starter Chris Bassitt returns to Citi Field after posting career best numbers for the Mets a season ago, and while he’s been generally solid so far this year, he’s gotten absolutely rocked in his last two starts, both coming on the road, where his ERA is 5.45. I can’t pass up the opportunity to grab Justin Verlander at this price, especially with the Mets on an 8 game winning streak at home.

Game Preview & Pick:

While there’s always going to be the Bryce & Bobby Millers’ of the world, they are the anomaly, and most pitchers don’t fare very well in their major league debuts. That’s likely to be the case tonight, with Tigers starting pitcher Reese Olson – Olson didn’t exactly set the world on fire in the minors either, posting a 6.38 ERA this season. Chicago starter Mike Clevinger’s once extremely promising career was derailed by injuries, but any fantasy baseball nerd remembers his early years with the Indians (opps, sorry, “Guardians”), and he has a 3.15 ERA in 4 starts pitching at Guaranteed Rate Field (it pains me to type stupid stadium names like that) on the year.
